Testimonials

What students say about us

  • There's a particular kind of alone that happens inside a full social life.

Most communities ask you to share, to explain yourself.

What happens in Sunday Waves is different. People arrive on their own. Move in their own world. And without planning it, without a single conversation, something shifts.

The kind of belonging you've been looking for doesn't always require words. Sometimes it happens through shared movement in the same room.

"It's been a joy to see Marjolein building such a welcoming community and safe space for new and experienced dancers to explore their journey." — Angela, Kingston

Sunday Waves runs every month. Come once. See what you find.

  • 5Rhythms isn't about how your dance looks. It's about what it frees.

No steps. No mirrors. No one watching. No right way.

5Rhythms is a free movement practice guided through five natural rhythms: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, Stillness. You don't need dance experience. You don't need coordination. You just need a body.

It is practiced around the world as a meditation in movement, a way to release stress, reconnect with yourself, and move freely in a room that holds space for just that.

Classes in Hobart with certified 5Rhythms Waves Teacher Marjolein Akkerman.

  • Movement doesn't have to be a task you complete. It can just be something you do because your body wants to.

It's not a workout. It's not a meditation where you have to sit still. It's not something you have to justify.

It's two hours of moving exactly the way your body wants to. No steps to follow. No agenda. No performance. Just the freedom of movement in a room that holds space for exactly that.

"It is liberating and joyous to dance the 5Rhythms with Marjolein." — Juliet, Darwin

  • The reason you can't switch off isn't that you're bad at resting.

It's that every recovery strategy you've tried, the meditation app, the walk, the early night, the bath, has asked your mind to manage the problem.

But your mind is the thing that's overloaded. Asking it to solve the problem is like asking the thing that's running too hot to also cool itself down.

Stress lives in the body. And it leaves through the body.

Sunday Waves is two hours of guided free movement. No steps to follow. No performance. Just your body doing what it already knows how to do when you give it space.

The reason you can't switch off isn't that you're bad at resting.
